Guest editorial: Solar tariffs — An uninformed policy

On Jan. 23, a proposal that sat on President Trump’s desk for over two months, which the renewable energy industry had been watching anxiously, was finally signed. His signature places into effect a 30 percent tariff on imported solar panels, and while it was expected, the reasoning behind it and implications going forward beckon further understanding.

When considering any attempt to reform our tax code, the first question I ask myself is, “Will it help the middle class?” After carefully looking over the Republican tax bills proposed in the House and Senate, the only answer I can come to is, “No, these bills won’t help the middle class.” In fact, they will do just the opposite.

On Dec. 1, SANDAG’s Service Bureau released its completed traffic study of the SoccerCity development proposed for the San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) Stadium site. The report, which was requested by proponents and opponents of SoccerCity, forecasts how the plan affects travel to, from and within the site.
